A Break in the Blue!

Since this is a random day without my blue uniform (SHOCKER!),
I thought I would post my ensemble. It's still kinda warm-ish here so I'm stuck in that end of summer phase. As I've mentioned before, the camera that I use for this is so not great so my outfits really don't translate so well a lot of the time. This top is a light knit sweater with larger knit on the shoulders, but kinda looks like a 1980's mesh, tank top here. You know what I'm talking about! Gotta love it! :-) it's got a stripey kinda look too across the midsection as well, which you can't see.

NO, my sweater does NOT look like this in person!

At any rate, here is the breakdown...
Today's ensemble:
Panks- Old Navy
Sweater- Target
Necklace- H & M
Shoes- Nine West
Earrings- Kohl's

So... please don't give up on me. As soon as my fall season slows down. I'll go back to posting my daily outfits!!

Until tomorrow....

Too much? NNAAAHHHHH!!!

My wonderful and fashion forward mom got me this scarf and I couldn't  wait to wear it! Funny story...we were in Kohl's last Wed (had a 30% off coupon that we couldn't let go to waste) and I saw this scarf entwined with another in an ad on the wall of the store. We searched high and low for it to no avail. We even pulled in an enthusiastic employee who's search lasted much longer than ours! Then, mom found it at another Kohl's in town- thanks momma! I still need to find the scarf it was entwined with, but for now, I LOVE this one! BTW-side note... never thought of wearing two scarves together. SO fun! I can't wait to try this as it gets a little cooler. It is really tough to see the detail in the scarf but its main colors are: bright blue, red, teal, and kelly green.  Primary colors=LOVE! I added in the red flats and earrings since I thought it would look cool, but not too matchy matchy. I was also happy to have some button earrings since the stripes and busy scarf really need minimal jewelry! The stripes on my top are navy and I liked the way it looked with all the bright hues. I needed something neutral in there! The color of the pants doesn't really read well in this pic either...they are more of a blue/purple color while this pic shows them as a royal/bright blue. I do have a pair this color, but these are not quite the same. This is one of those outfits that I totally built around the scarf while standing in my closet. I grabbed the new scarf and let things inspire me. Outfits built this way are truly some of my favorites.

Today's ensemble:

Pants-Target
Shoes- Kohl's
Top- H & M
Scarf- Kohl's
Earrings- Old Navy

This may be the only non health fair outfit I wear this week. If so, I'll post some weekend ensembles soon! Here's one from this weekend...Saturday date night with the hubby!

Saturday's ensemble:

Pants- Old Navy
Tee- Old Navy
Necklace- H & M
Shoes- Elle for Kohl's
Earrings- Kohl's

Until tomorrow....or...soon!

Health Fairs= no fashion!

I wanted to put a little note out there to anyone who may be looking for updates. I've mentioned in previous posts that the fall is my busiest season with work. Since I work in corporate wellness, we have a "uniform" of sorts for our health fairs and flu shot clinics. My baby blue polo and khaki or black pants is what I live in for most of Oct and Nov. The past few days, I've had events so this is why I'm not posting. I don't think it will excite ANYONE to see this ensemble over and over and over again! ;-) I will focus more on getting my weekend wear on here, so that my audience will not tire or assume that I'm being lazy!

Instead of a pic of my outfit, I figured I would still share some wisdom. The main point of my blog is the fact that I enjoy finding affordable clothes that allow me to build fab outfits and still live life with a little pocket change. However, I was thinking this AM that even though I do call myself a "shoestring fashionista" it can still be a slippery financial slope. Instead of shopping a few times a year for key pieces, shopping can possibly become a more frequent "hobby". Yikes!!! I've come to the realization that even though I am a thrifty gal, I still probably spend too much! A little secret from me to you....things DO in fact add up even if they are on a great sale, marked down, you have a coupon, or are at a discount store like TJ Maxx. So, as I move forward with this blog and my friends and family inspiring me, I will strive to do two things before the year ends...end of the year resolutions if you will.

1. Set a monthly fashion budget (I know, terrible that I don't have one).

2. Pick key pieces that I want to add to my wardrobe instead of just mindlessly purchasing because I "like" something.

So, we'll see. I am posting this on the first day of the 10th month so I only have two months to go. I can do it! I have been crafting my "want" list in my mind. A few of the items on that list...black booties (work or weekend appropriate), animal print flats, and the perfect crisp, classic white button down (like the unicorn of clothing- doubtful that it exists the way I want it to. I've never found one that fits right). These are items that I'll be looking for and if I find them (for a good price) I will allow myself to buy them. This will be much more purposeful than adding ten new cute tops just because...

I'll check in and let you know how I"m doing. This has certainly gotten me thinking about my "shoestring fashionista" ways...I can still enjoy finding great bargains and playing with fashion, but in a much more mindful way.

Until tomorrow...
